Each year someone who has something to do with engineering at BYU sponsors a bow-making competition. Mark has competed in the past, and this is his final year, since he's graduating.
Mark had 11 entries this year. We went to cheer him on.
Mark can tell you more about the bows, but I'll share what I remember. Among the materials used were: golf clubs, pine wood, seat belts, fishing rods, tennis rackets, saw blades, and tent poles. And tape.
The bows were stretched back to 50 lbs. and then the arrows were shot across the field.
Mark's best bow went 95 yards, which is really great!
He won Best Engineering Design for a bow he calls "Caddie" since it's made with golf clubs.
We can rest assured that if our family were in the wilderness and our bows broke, Mark would come up with something to shoot us some wild beasts.
